The Swarmer exceedes the Interceptor on speed, armor and weapon damage. Its extremely good manouverability comes at a high price; a very small fuel tank and high fuel consumption. These craft are to be treated with caution and fought by large wings of Strike Craft.
Its tiny fuel capacity is its Achillies' Heel in that it must return to the Fuel Pod to refuel continually. Here it is stationary and thus very vulnerable. (Hint hint.)

The Advanced Swarmer has even better armor and guns and slightly better fuel consumption. It is their equivalent of a high-speed MultiGun Corvette / Fighter. Treat with even greater caution, especially when swarming. Again, their compulsive docking for refuelling leads to their demise.

These Fuel Pods will be found anywhere where Swarmers are engaged. Up to six Swarmers can dock at a time on its underside, from where they are easy picking. The Fuel Pod's single cannon poses a risk to Salvage Corvettes but it is usually pretty easy to capture. Any Swarmers in the area will make short work of the Salvage Corvettes.
The Fuel Pods will not allow Player ships to dock with them so there are only two uses for them once captured. You can retire them for RU's or you can send them near to enemy ships and order them to Scuttle twice.
Can not be converted by a Carrier, even though they are the size of a Corvette.

A very potent MultiGun Corvette / Ion Cannon Frigate hybrid that is effective against Strike Craft and Capital Ships alike. They can be set to 'wave' at a cloud of Strike Craft and invariably remove a few each pass. Point a Wall of MBF's at a Mothership and it will detonate in mere seconds. Their enormous firepower housed in such a small ship is great, but it comes at a price; accuracy. When targetted on a large Capital Ship, this is not much of an issue because they revolve so that the gyroscopic effect keeps them aiming true (similar to rifle). But when pitched against a moving Frigate or Strike Craft, their aiming is not good and they are sure to blast each other for a few seconds, especially just after each enemy blows up and they retarget.
Can be converted by a Carrier.

Mothership

This Mothership has a strong tendancy to ram its opponents with its large, flat head so look out for it swinging toward your Capital Ships. It also has the annoying habit of hyperspacing around the map so you can't get an easy fix on it the first time you encounter it.
Swarmers and Advanced Swarmers are ejected (12 at a time) from the rim of the head away from the spindle of the Pin. This looks rather impressive, I think. Fuel Pods emerge from hyperspace half way down the shank of the Pin.
